Dr. Trey Smith

Executive Director

Dr. Trey Smith has served East Mountain High School for nearly two decades and currently leads the school as Executive Director. Over his 19-year tenure, he has held multiple instructional and leadership roles and has been instrumental in shaping the school’s academic culture and signature programs. He founded East Mountain’s nationally competitive Speech and Debate program and previously served as Executive Director of the school’s Foundation.

Dr. Smith holds licensure in Educational Administration, as well as teaching licenses in English, Social Studies, and Gifted Education. He earned a BA in English and Philosophy, an MA in Public Administration from the University of New Mexico, and a Doctorate in Education Leadership & Innovation from Arizona State University.

Dr. Smith is a leading voice for education reform in New Mexico and a frequent national conference presenter, sharing lessons in school design, leadership, and student achievement. He is honored to lead one of the nation’s top public secondary schools and to work alongside an exceptional staff committed to student growth, innovation, and excellence.

A proud member of the East Mountain community, Dr. Smith lives just minutes from campus and enjoys traveling with his wife of seventeen years, Cristin, and their son, Xavier.
