Sarah Appel

Middle School Counselor

Sarah was raised in southern Minnesota, began teaching in Arizona, and now lives in Tijeras with her husband, Tim, their two children — Nick and Biz — and their dog, Aggie. She holds a BS in Teaching and an MA in Education in Educational Counseling. The 2026–2027 school year marks Sarah’s 25th year in education. Throughout her career, she has worked as a middle school teacher, elementary teacher, teacher librarian, district librarian, educational technology coordinator, middle school coach, and currently serves as an assistant track coach at East Mountain High School.

After spending the past nine years in the library world, Sarah felt called back to working directly with students, which has always been her passion in education. Returning to coaching track at EM reignited her love for surrounding herself with kids and brought her full circle back to her start – middle school and counseling. Outside of school, she enjoys traveling, reading mysteries and books set in Minnesota, working on puzzles, and cheering on her children at their sporting events. Sarah also loves staying active, spending time with her family, and anything involving sports and friendly competition.
